Crestwood Neighbourhood Renewal Project

About the Project

This project consisted of upgrading the Crestwood neighbourhood in west Edmonton. The upgrades included drainage, underground utilities, street light poles, intersection re-alignment, sidewalks, curb and gutter as well as the road structure.

Our Role

For this project Stewart, Weir was contracted to provide tender drawings and in field grade design for the intersection re-alignments, sidewalks, curb and gutter throughout the entire neighbourhood. The methodology consisted of using City survey data to design the intersection re-alignments and set new sidewalk, curb and gutter grades using the updated City of Edmonton standards to provide a new and improved drainage course and walkway for the neighbourhood residences. Some challenging areas consisted of low to no curb face, landscaping, flat lot grades, areas where water would pool, matching existing parking lots and exposed aggregate driveways and sidewalks as well as the tie-in to the existing curb and gutter. Our design goals were to prevent water pooling, to prevent lot back drainage, to match new work with existing features as much as possible and of course to provide a safe path around the neighbourhood.
